Your Body Has More Than 5 Places Worth Paying Attention To

Some parts of the body get all the attention.

You know the ones.

We're not saying they've done anything to lose their VIP status. We're simply suggesting that the guest list could be considerably longer.

Because your body is covered in nerve endings, and when we get into predictable routines, it's surprisingly easy to forget just how much territory there is to explore.

So consider this your invitation to wander off the usual route.

1. The scalp

There is a reason having someone play with your hair can make you want to melt directly into the furniture.

Try fingertips through the hair, gentle scratching or a slow scalp massage.

No destination. No agenda.

Just ridiculously good head scratches.

2. The back of the neck

A criminally underappreciated little patch of real estate.

Hair being moved out of the way. A kiss. Fingertips. Warm breath.

The neck is especially fun because even very light touch can feel surprisingly noticeable.

3. The ears

Before you skip this one because it sounds obvious: when was the last time you actually paid attention to them?

The area around and behind the ears can be incredibly sensitive to light touch.

This is also an excellent reminder that “more pressure” doesn't automatically mean “more sensation.”

Sometimes barely-there wins.

4. The inside of the arms

Not exactly the first place anyone thinks of when they hear sexy.

Which is precisely why it's interesting.

The skin along the inner arm—from the wrist upward—can be sensitive to slow, light touch.

Try tracing fingertips along it and notice where the sensation changes.

We're experimenting here.

5. The hands

Hands spend all day doing the touching and very little time being the centre of attention.

Massage the palm. Trace fingertips. Interlace fingers. Run your thumb slowly over the inside of the wrist.

It's intimate without trying particularly hard to be intimate.

Which somehow makes it better.

6. The back

The back is enormous.

And yet it often gets approximately three minutes of attention during a massage before everybody moves along.

Rude.

Shoulders, lower back, the sides of the torso, along the spine—different areas can respond completely differently to pressure, fingertips, warmth or massage.

Explore.

You've got plenty of room.

7. The waist and hips

There's something about being touched around the waist that feels very deliberately I'm touching you.

Hands resting on the hips.

Fingers along the waist.

Being pulled slightly closer.

Sometimes it's not about finding the most sensitive nerve ending. It's about the way a touch makes you feel.

8. The inner thighs

We couldn't make this list and leave them out.

But here's the experiment: don't immediately move on.

Stay there.

That's it.

That's the assignment.

Remember what we said about anticipation?

Exactly.

9. Behind the knees

Yes.

The knees.

Well, technically behind them.

It's thin, sensitive skin that probably receives almost zero intentional attention in everyday life—which makes it interesting territory for light touch.

Will everybody love it?

Absolutely not.

Could you discover something unexpectedly delightful?

Also yes.

10. Anywhere you usually skip

And this is actually the important one.

Bodies aren't standardized.

A spot that makes one person melt might make another person say, “Can you please stop doing that immediately?”

That's not a problem.

That's the experiment.

Instead of thinking of your body as having a handful of designated pleasure zones, think of it as a map you probably haven't completely explored yet.

Change the pressure.

Change the speed.

Try fingertips instead of a whole hand.

Try massage.

Try warmth.

Try lingering somewhere you'd normally pass right over.

And most importantly, don't immediately abandon a good spot because you're trying to get somewhere “better.”

Sometimes the best discovery happens when you stop following the usual route.

Take the scenic one instead.
